Caring for your child

Starting Nursery

Working together we aim to make this big step a positive experience, we will discuss with you the best way to settle your child into our nursery.

A number of visits will be arranged where you will spend time with your child, helping them become acquainted with the staff and the nursery routines. You will gradually spend longer periods apart until they are ready to start their daily session without you.

We want your child to feel settled, happy and secure and we want you to feel confident when you leave your child in our care.

What should my child wear?

So your child can enjoy their day and be independent at toilet time please dress your child in easy to handle clothing.

Young children love to get messy and at nursery they will have lots of opportunity to experiment with water play and a variety of craft materials.

Although children will be provided with aprons we suggest you dress your child in easy to wash clothing and provide a change of clothes in a suitable bag so that your child can be changed and made comfortable if they have an accident or get dirty/wet during play.

*Please note - All items of clothing should be labelled clearly with your child's name!

If your child requires nappies please supply enough to cover their daily session in a bag with wipes and cream so that we can change your child regularly throughout their stay.

During toilet training we will work with you following the routine that you have introduced at home to give a consistent approach to your child.

Our mealtimes are happy and social occasions where your child will learn important skills.

We will provide healthy snacks and well-balanced meals including a vegetarian option if required. Drinks of water will be available throughout the day.

On admission, please inform us if your child has any food allergies or cultural and dietary needs.

If your baby is being bottle fed, please provide us with your baby's formula milk so that we can make up thier bottles fresh and on demand.

All feeds given will be monitored and amounts recorded for your information.

For those babies moving onto solid food nursery meals will be pureed, mashed or chopped according to their need.

Menus will be displayed in the nursery for you to see.
Take a look at our Sample Menu here.

Sleep time is normally after lunch but your child can sleep whenever they are tired or if you request they have a rest at a particular time.

Babies will sleep in accordance to their individual care plan.

Illness & Medication

If your child is unwell, please keep them at home as we have a responsibility to other children and staff to maintain a healthy environment.

The length of time they should stay away from nursery will depend on the illness, nursery staff can advise on what the recommended exclusion periods are.

If your child becomes unwell during the day, and spikes a temperature, we can with your permision administer calpol. We will continue to monitor your child and keep you informed of your childs condition.

With your written permission we can administer medicines prescribed by your doctor, the medicine will need to be labelled clearly with your child's name, dosage and instructions.

We will inform you of any medication given.

We aim to maintain a well supervised and safe environment for your child. However sometimes accidents can occur you be informed of the incident and asked to sign the relevant report form.
